Bloganuary Day 27: The Books I want to read

Bloganuary writing prompt
What books do you want to read?

What an excellent prompt! As I am religiously embracing my reading hobby this year and making some solid progress in my TBR (To Be Read) list, I can definitely pick and name a few excellent books that I really want to read in 2024.

  • Same as Ever: A Guide to What Never Changes by Morgan Housel
I loved Morgan’s psychology of money and I’m learning personal investing as we speak. Going by the reviews, this book explores a different world view that is typical of Morgan, into the world of investing. I will soon be checking this book off my TBR list!
  • What if? Serious answers to absurd hypothetical questions by Randall Munroe
I have been following Randall’s XKCD for over a decade now, and have enjoyed a lot of his comics (even though I don’t exactly subscribe to his worldview). Like Randall, I have been plagued with my own set of absurd questions, and I can’t wait to lay my hands on this book, to see what answers Randall has found for his own absurd questions!
  • The Last Heroes: Foot Soliders of Indian Freedom by Palamgunni Sainath
Thanks to my friend Alex, I got a signed copy of this book from THE Sainath himself. I grew up reading this Magsaysay Award winning Senior Journalist’s stories in The Hindu Op-ed on rural India. His work opened my eyes to the harsh realities around me. As soon as I finish reading Everybody Loves a Good Drought, I’m picking up this one.
  • The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying by Sogyal Rinpoche
Every since I saw death in close quarters last year, I have been exploring it as a concept, fascinated by it. I have already read Paul Kalanithi’s When Breath Becomes Air, Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Album, and The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch. A friend who works in the medical field recommended this book to me a few years back, I am totally reading it this year.
  • Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams by Matthew Walker
Aditya recommended this book to me a couple of years back, and it has been languishing in my TBR list ever since. I’m fascinated about sleep and the idea behind it, and I’m definitely bumping this one high on my list this year.

Like I said earlier, I have a fairly long TBR, and what I’ve shared above is just the tip of the iceberg. If you are so inclined, check out my latest TBR list on goodreads (which is constantly being updated too).

As I have shared earlier in this blog, I have set an ambitious goal of reading 52 books year, it remains to be seen how it goes!

This post was written as part of the Bloganuary challenge of WordPress.com. Bloganuary is a month-long challenge, where bloggers are challenged to write a new blog post every day, based on a daily writing prompt. You will need a WordPress.com account to get the prompts, but you can blog on any platform of your choice – OR even journal privately. Oh btw, there is no bloganuary police – so you can pick your own prompts if you wish to!

May I float my choices, please? Detective, amateur sleuths and on international venues. Why? Cuz; I write that genre. Check my eBooks and Paperbacks on Amazon Books. Dee Tezelli, author of 24+mountain thrillers currently on Amazon.
