I don’t like the idea that I’m not in control of my life.
Neo, The Matrix
First of all, let me start by apologizing for sharing yet another Matrix quote (what to do, I’m a hopeless Matrix fan!)
But if I were to pick one thing that makes me strong it is the very simple idea that I create my own destiny.
Sure, if you speak philosophically, you could argue about things like your destiny is written and then again talk about how choice is really an illusion and what not. But the simple fact of the matter is that at this very moment, you are in control of your life.
Just think of it – the past and the future are really abstractions. The past exists as memories in your head of what happened. The future is unknown, we can only imagine it. However, the power to craft our future really is with us.
That is because we have control over the present moment. What we do right now, in this very moment, dictates how our life would be in the very next moment. You will be alive the very next second after you finish reading this sentence because you took a breath in the present moment. Whatever you do right now, it really dictates what your future is going to look like.
The present is in our hands, and our job is to enjoy the present moment and to make the most out of it. Knowing the fact that we are the creators of our destiny really simplifies the future. Knowing that your destiny begins with one thought is also empowering. It is one of those things that is hidden in plain sight. It is so obvious (I just caught you sneering, dear reader!) that you sometimes think that this whole thing is a lie. But think of it, it’s true.
Of course, there are the unknowns. There are external influences you don’t have control over. But whatever happens, you choose how to react to them. That power essentially lies within you. Once you truly comprehend the enormousness of the fact, and act accordingly, the world becomes your oyster. You can truly achieve anything you want to believe.
Apologies, I know I sounded a lot like Sadhguru in this post, with all that sophistry. So, if I were to sum this up in one line, the knowledge of the simple fact that that I am in control of my own life and that I can really create my destiny and my future – that really is my biggest strength. 🙂
Fin.
