My wife and I moved to Kochi in 2016, I love this city and want to stay here for the foreseeable future. This year, we would have spent eight glorious years in the city, and by now, we have explored every nook and corner of it.
Well, almost.
It is hard to believe that there are quite a few places that are close by or easily accessible but locales that we have not had a chance to visit, yet. In these eight years, we have traveled extensively making even entire trips around the world – but it is surprising to believe that we have not visited some cool places that are quite close to home. While we are not exactly keen on visiting some of these places, the others have been in our list for a while, but we haven’t had a chance to visit them. I’m going to share about a few of these places in this post.
Munnar
The beautiful hillstation of Munnar is not exactly a stone’s throw away from home, it is a three-four hour drive away, in fact. Nonetheless, it is an accessible location, and is one of the most picturesque locales in Kerala. We have made innumerable plans to go there in the past eight years, but none worked out. On a lighter note, I think Munnar could be cursed for us, since we originally planned to visit the hill station for our honeymoon but couldn’t make it due to, er… external reasons. Whatever be the case, we are totally visiting this breathtaking hillstation soon!
Athirappilly Falls
Arguably the prettiest waterfalls not just in the state of Kerala but also in India, is less than hundred kilometres from where we live. But alas… we have never been able to lay our eyes on this beauty. If you ask why, well, like Munnar, we did make plans to visit Athirappilly, but none of them worked out. I totally want to change that this year as well.
WonderLa Amusement Park
If you will pardon the hyperbole, one of India’s biggest water theme parks is a stone’s throw from my place, and I am yet to visit it since we moved to Kochi. Of course, I have visited this place several times in the past, with my last visit during college days over a decade ago. But despite staying very close to this fun place, I have not found myself visiting not even once. If you ask why, the reason beats me.
2024 is my year of travel, and I’m certain I will change my history of not visiting any of these places this year. I hope to visit at least one of them (ideally all) this year. Let’s see how it goes!
