“When people revert to clutter no matter how much they tidy, it is not their room or their belongings but their way of thinking that is at fault.”
Marie Kondo
I am pretty sure professional organizer Marie Kondo had me in mind, when she made that quote. What can I say, I am quite the messy person.
My messiness is not intentional, it just… happens. Barring certain situations, I almost always end up creating a mess of wherever I am located. The mess has become part and parcel of my life. From my workspace to my surroundings, I just have clutter everywhere.
I have been reading Marie Kondo this year, and I’m fascinated by the Konmari method. The quote I shared above resonates a lot with me, and I have been able to validate it with some experiments. I have realized that my clutter is indeed connected to my way of thinking. In my experiments where I followed some of Kondo’s advice of adopting a different mindset, and I miraculously found the clutter around me reducing or even disappearing.
I am realizing the hard way that the clutter around me is connected to a mindset.
So what I am saying here really is that I first need to reduce the clutter in my mind, in order to declutter the area around me!
As this year is underway, I am adopting the mindset of decluttering. So far, it is coming along well, the mini experiments that I am doing are paying fruit. I am seeing real physical benefits to defragmenting my mind, which is helping me realign my own self and reap benefits.
I will report back here on my adventures.
Oh, so if you’re a “fellow clutterer”, check out Kondo’s famous Netflix documentary for some inspiration. I hope it sparks joy for you! ✨
