We bought a Nissan Magnite in May 2023, upgrading from a 9 year old Maruti Suzuki Ciaz. It was a much needed upgrade for the primary driver (pun not intended) of our family, as the Ciaz had survived a major accident not too long ago and had left us stranded on the road at least two times by then. The magnite, with its critical safety features, turbo engine, driver comfort, excellent infotainment and driver friendly features – not to mention, its affordable price, was the best option, and we didn’t have to think twice for an upgrade.
My make-up artist wife had work near Thirunnelveli in June 2023, weeks after we got our hands on the shiny new set of wheels. We also were planning to go to Thiruvananthapuram (our native town) right after the work. What a perfect opportunity for to test the new car.
It turned out to be one of the best road trips I have personally embarked on.
Here’s a map that roughly shows the route we took.
For the first leg of our trip, we went from Kochi to Tirunelveli, where we rested for a day (for Archana to complete her work). Then we travelled from there to Trivandrum, our hometown.
On our way to Tirunelveli, the leg of our journey in the state of Kerala was kinda meh, the usual – slightly dilapilated roads, moderate traffic, stopping occasionally, etc. But the moment we ventured into Tamil Nadu, things changed. The roads were beautiful, we were greeted by windmills on the sides. It felt like we were flying on the road. Things got even better, as we travellled to Trivandrum from Tirunelveli. Words will not do justice to that view, check out this Instagram reel below to see what I’m talking about.
The magnite proved to be a trusty steed all along, its powerful turbo engine smoothly revving through the road, and the car itself making us feel comfortable. It was such a great experience being behind the wheel. This trip was so enthralling, and it made me fall in love with road trips again.
While we did go for quite a few road trips after this trip, none have matched the beauty and thrill of this one. I love being on the road, it is such a beautiful feeling. And our car is almost 9 months old, raring to find its way to new destinations.
Here’s to more road trips in 2024! 🥂
