Bloganuary Day 9: What is my mission?

Daily writing prompt
What is your mission?

I am a child of the internet.

I was born in the eighties and grew up in the nineties. I became a “netizen” or an internet citizen in my late teens and have never looked back. For a confused gawky teenager, the internet helped me find a place and made me feel heard. It would go on to encompass my whole life and help me make a living. Today, in ways more than one, I am deeply connected to the internet. My life and work is deeply embedded in it, and I am thankful for its existence.

And I’m not the only one blessed by the interwebs. There are millions (billions?) of others whose lives have been positively influenced by the world wide web.

Like any potent entity, the internet too has its dangers. It can equally be used for bad as it can be for good. In fact, the internet is also a haven for many bad actors who perpetrate everything from spam to global terrorism. It is the other side of the internet, a dark reality.

The internet in its pinnacle is known for being free and open. It is the hallmark of the world wide web as we know it. Internet freedom, in my opinion, is the reason why it became so powerful and has blessed with a modern world as we know it today. Sure, it has also resulted in some bad actors as mentioned above, but I believe we have enough countermeasures in place, thanks to cybersecurity experts who can mitigate these concerns.

Today, the web and the world are interconnected, and there is so much value in keeping both free and open.

My mission is life is to help make the internet a better place, to keep the web, free, open, accessible, and safe for all. To save it from walled gardens and gatekeepers, to protect netizens from the dangers of its dark corners, to build a better web that begets a better world, a better global community.

My mission is to make the world (and the web) a better place. To do whatever I can to make a (minor) dent in this universe, that makes life a little easier for all the living beings in this planet.

I also wish to live a full life as I embark on my mission, to explore everything life has to offer, to make the most out of every opportunity, to grow as a person, to love unconditionally, to live…

There’s a lot more chapters to be written in my book of life. Let’s wait and see how it unfolds…

This post was written as part of the Bloganuary challenge of WordPress.com. Bloganuary is a month-long challenge, where bloggers are challenged to write a new blog post every day, based on a daily writing prompt. You will need a WordPress.com account to get the prompts, but you can blog on any platform of your choice – OR even journal privately. Oh btw, there is no bloganuary police – so you can pick your own prompts if you wish to!
