With some help from my AI friend, I generated the freeway billboard of my dreams, which you can see in the featured image of this blog post. If for some reason, you are not able to find it, I have embedded it below for your viewing pleasure

My freeway billboard will have the letters “DO” printed prominently on a white background.
Given how cryptic my billboard looks like, I feel it owes an explanation. First of all, I wouldn’t place a freeway billboard that will have anything to say about me. I am not a huge fan of blowing my own trumpet, so a billboard about me would be the last thing I’d have. So, if I did get the opportunity to put out a billboard, I would use it to send a message.
I thought a lot of what could go on that billboard. I thought of a bunch of inspirational messages that could feature in my billboard. I wanted to pick something simple and direct. The letters “Do” flashed before my eyes, and I made my choice almost instantly.
The word “do” is a verb. According to dictionary.com, it means: “to perform” or “to execute”. According to the Oxford languages dictionary which google uses for its search results, it also means: “achieve or complete.”
Do, is a verb signifying action. It is an exhortation to just go ahead and act.
The word do, is a call for action.
And that’s exactly what I mean with my billboard. It’s a call for action, it exhorts all its readers to go ahead and “do”.
It could also mean a bunch of things. The thing about art (I consider my billboard to be a work of art), is that the moment it is published, it belongs to its consumers, and it does not belong to the artist. Which means, the moment my billboard is up, it belongs to the onlooker. They are free to interpret it in any way they want. What does the word “do” invoke in their mind? I’m pretty sure that a million people are going to have a million answers, and that’s exactly what I’d like to do with my billboard too.
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.

Side Note
Speaking of billboards, do watch Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. This beautiful film won a bunch of accolades and was even nominated for the Best Picture award in 2018! It’s a heart-rending flick that is sure to bring a tear to your eye and to make you think.
