Bloganuary Day 2: What says playtime to me

Daily writing prompt
Do you play in your daily life? What says “playtime” to you?

All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.

William Shakespeare

The famous Shakespeare quote came flashing into my eyes when I saw today’s Bloganuary prompt. Of late, I have been trying to see life from a different perspective. I think Shakespeare had a point when he shared those famous words. What if life is a giant play where all of us are actors?

What if life is a game?

Don’t take life too seriously, you’ll never get out of it alive!

In other words, I think our life in itself is “playtime”. 🙂 If you begin to see the world and your life as a game, things change. I think we all make the mistake of taking things around us too seriously. I think it’s probably time we stopped doing it.

2023 was a particularly difficult year for me, I had a lot going on especially in my personal life. Several things took a toll on me. Nonetheless, looking back, I think all the experiences that I had were part of a game, yes, even the tough ones. Pretty much like video games (or actual physical games), our lives are finite. Our game starts at a certain point, and ends at a certain point. We have different levels as we pursue different areas in life. There are different missions, adventures, successes, wins, and what nots. The only catch is that we have only one life, unlike in video games where you are blessed with several.

In 2024, I am going to see my entire life ahead as “play”. Yes, I know it sounds a bit absurd, but that’s exactly what I have in mind.

I am going to try and embrace everything that life offers to me in the spirit of a game. I think I have always been a bit too serious about life. I’m going to take things a little light, going on. Now, it doesn’t mean goofing around, but I do want to take things with a light heart. I have experimented with this in the past and it has always given me good results. Taking things light, helps me focus better, and even enjoy the toughest tasks that I do. I think it could even provide me the experience of finding joy even in the mundane things of life.

Coming back to the prompt, “play” in the past referred to acts of relaxation or fun, but going on, I’m going to try and see my entire life as play.

The game is on!

This post was written as part of the Bloganuary challenge of WordPress.com. Bloganuary is a month-long challenge, where bloggers are challenged to write a new blog post every day, based on a daily writing prompt. You will need a WordPress.com account to get the prompts, but you can blog on any platform of your choice – OR even journal privately. Oh btw, there is no bloganuary police – so you can pick your own prompts if you wish to!
